Local Authority Climate Action Plans

Under Ireland's National Adaptation Framework Local Authorities are required to prepare climate action plans/adaptation strategies for their areas.

The first round of adaptation strategy development was completed in 2018 with the second round developed as climate action plans in 2024.

The plans identify the key risks faced across the Local Authority jurisdiction and the approach being taken to address these risks and build climate resilience for the future. They were developed applying an adaptation planning process described in Local Authority Planning Guidelines for Climate Change Adaptation.
